Mother's Anchor

Nurturing the Woman Behind the Family

Minimalist gold and navy line drawing of a modest Muslim hijabi woman with flowing garments leaning against an anchor, symbolizing motherhood, strength, and nurturing family values.
Celebrating the strength and serenity of motherhood. “Mother’s Anchor” reflects the quiet resilience of the woman behind the family, grounded, nurturing, and unwavering in her role.

In our deep devotion to those we love, we often lose sight of the heart that powers the home. We become the silent support, the constant caregiver, and the steady hand, sometimes forgetting that our own well-being is an Amanah, a sacred trust, from Allah.

True restoration is not a luxury or a temporary escape; it is a form of gratitude for the life we have been given and a necessity for the roles we fulfill. The Mother’s Anchor moves beyond the hollow clichΓ©s of "self-care" to focus on what truly sustains the feminine soul: the restorative rhythm of meaningful hobbies, the healing found in nature, and the profound strength of continued worship and expression.

We are here to remind you that nurturing yourself is not a distraction from your duties; it is the foundation that makes them possible. When you are anchored, you do not just survive your days—you lead your family with clarity, patience, and grace.

Anchors of Restoration

A mother’s life is often lived in the service of others, but we must carve out spaces that belong only to our own growth.

What is the Creative Anchor for Muslim Mothers?

Finding peace in tactile work, from the rhythmic click of knitting needles to the intricate details of a sewing project or earthy soil in your gardening hands. Creating something with your hands reminds you of your own agency and the beauty of slow progress.

How Does Writing Serve as a Healing Anchor?

The intentional act of using the word to ground yourself. This can take many forms: a Cathartic Journal to process emotions, a Gratitude Journal to find Barakah in small moments, or even Blogging to build community.

"Writing is like breathing; it is the bridge that connects who you are on the inside to how you show up on the outside."

I left pieces of me all over the internet...

Bytes of time, chunks of me left in the HTML following directions and misguided leads to more forms and APIs. I say I want to leave a legacy, but I also really want to make money. Instead, I found emptiness transactions in a Meta sea. Other creators—we create bits and pieces leaving scattered chunks online.

Where is our humanity when a family’s concern for an elderly parent is met with indifference?

As someone who has spent decades in the “trenches” of education, I have always believed in the power of clear communication and advocacy. But nothing prepares you for the “choppy waters” of the healthcare system. It began for us in the ER on March 17th, a violation of consent and a cold introduction to a system that seemed to prioritize technical data over the dignity of a human soul.

I have been writing since I first learned how. Perhaps it started in grade four, when my friend and I filled those little exercise notebooks with stories. In grade seven, I won a writing competition that awarded me a week of coaching with an author. She almost ended writing for me with her heavy expectations and critiques; as a result, I took my writing internal. I wrote often, but I frequently ripped up what I created.

What is the Natural Anchor for Nurturing the Soul?

Seeking the quiet perspective gained from a walk in the woods or a moment of stillness under the open sky. Nature is a silent teacher of patience, resilience, and seasons. Sometimes we need "Vitamin N" (Nature) for a fresh perspective.

How Does the Spiritual Anchor Bring True Stability?

The steady strength found in consistent prayer, reflection, and the pursuit of knowledge. This is the ultimate "Keel" that keeps us upright in the strongest storms.

Treading Water, Seeking Stillness

There are seasons where motherhood feels less like a journey and more like a feat of endurance. I wrote this piece during a time when I felt the weight of 'treading water'.

The Anchor and the Current: Treading Water, Seeking Stillness

I’ve been struggling lately, treading water just to keep my head above the waves. Life doesn’t get easier as you get older. I no longer wish for the future the way I did as a child. Sometimes, I only wish for the end, not out of a desire to leave, but out of a fear of what remains. I fear being weak, dependent, and confined. That scares me more than death itself. I hope, instead, that death brings the peace of a grave with a view of Paradise.
